A week long Art Journaling retreat in beautiful Haliburton

This September I will be teaching 5 full days of Art Journaling at Haliburton School of the Arts. This is a wonderful opportunity to settle in to undisturbed personal discovery.

DETAILS

Whether you are a person who is looking to take time and space to figure out what's next, need time and space to heal from burn out, or an experienced artist needing to break out of a box you've painted yourself into, this week long class offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself into writing and art making.

What you will actually be doing:

To start with, you will make your own journals. Art journals are a vessel. They hold so much more than the art you put into them. They hold your feelings and your stories within every brushstroke and every image you collage. So, the first step will be infusing yourself into your journal by making it yourself.

The rhythm of each day will include writing prompts, painting techniques, collage and creative lettering. For the first few sessions, the prompts and techniques are an introduction to Art Journaling, different ways of writing so your journaling becomes the base layer for your page. Next, we will explore different painting techniques that offer beginners stepping stones to exploring paint, and experienced artists permission to play. Next, collaging an image, which often reveals a deeper meaning to your writing, and finishing your page up with text. In class you will have an opportunity to practice different lettering techniques.

Who is this retreat for?

I asked this questions to one of the Deep Dive Art Journalers and this was their answer:
"...anyone needing the gift of space to explore, retooling their life-personally and professionally"

Some things art journaling has help journalers work through are:

  • Transitions-personal and professional
  • Family stress
  • Work-life balance
  • Healing
  • Art Journaling is a very personal journey, "it really is what you put in..." one journaler mentioned one day, and everyone agreed.

  • anyone at a crossroads in their life
  • anyone who needs a space to set aside the weight they carry
  • anyone looking for time to reflect on big ideas
  • anyone who is looking to continue on their art journaling journey
  • anyone looking for a creative space where they can connect with others
  • anyone ready to wrestle with some tough stuff
  • anyone who needs some space to be introspective

What you will get out of it:

  • a safe place to work through a big life decision
  • a vessel to hold your feelings
  • maybe some clarity on things you're working through
  • a space to express yourself safely and freely
  • connection to other journalers sharing their journey with you

This class is a place where feelings get felt, expressed, and witnessed. Art journaling has a way of opening us up to often hidden things. It makes us vulnerable and calls upon our courage. These things we share within the group, so if you are ready to be supportive and be supported-please join us.

Accomodations

Flemming College (the main college Hailburton School of the Arts is part of) has a list of local accommodations I have no knowledge of any of these places, so do your own research.

 What others are saying

Your sessions are very cathartic; releasing of bad energy and replenishing of such good mojo.

Honestly, can there be anything more grounding and mindful?

I can’t recommend Anna’s course enough - it felt like time stood still while I went inwards. Thank you Anna for holding the space.

------------------------------

As a participant in a number of Anna's art workshops I can say Do Not Miss this opportunity to have a date with your creative self in a fun and supportive environment. Anna is skilled and generous with her ideas. Art journalling with Anna saved my sanity during the challenges over the last several months!

Making art can feel intimidating and working with Anna feels the opposite of intimidating. You don’t have to have an idea going in, or think in advance about what the page will look like, you just starting writing, and with Anna’s help and guidance, something interesting and artistic emerges. You can’t do it wrong but there are steps you can follow.
From her own extensive experience and developed techniques with art journaling Anna is able to provide practical ideas for how to create art in your own journal
I highly recommend Anna’s classes.
