Art Journaling for Teens weekly class is here:

Art Journaling for Tweens weekly class is here.

Let's face it. This pandemic has wrought havoc on our young people, and many of them are still feeling the effects of that time. Anxiety in teens is at an all time high. Online learning, separation from their peers, worry about the future are all eroding our teens mental health. Art journaling is a creative and expressive way to sort through your thoughts and feelings and a valuable tool for your self-care toolbox.

Through writing, painting, and collage teens will create a record of their feelings and experiences while learning a valuable coping skill that can last them their whole lives.  Through creativity and sharing, teens will learn how art journaling can help them label and address their feelings. Art journals are a safe place to put your feelings where you can safely express yourself without the pressure of having to share until you are ready. This is a no-rules, can't do it wrong art class where all levels of art experience are welcome.

Perfectionism, fear of making a mistake, self-criticism, and judgement are just a few of the things our teens are facing that can impact their happiness

This class is a safe space to try, explore, allow, let down your guard, and learn to be gentle with yourself. One of the most helpful exercises we do at art journaling is write, and then cover up what we wrote so know one can ever read it if we don't want them to. This part alone is one of the biggest benefits of art journaling-giving people a safe place to write.

What teens will get out of it:

  • a space to make friends and be themselves
  • have fun...like...real fun
  • a place to let their guard down
  • find out that it's okay to have fun and make art
  • a new tool for their mental health toolbox
  • this is a no-mistake, can't do it wrong, forgive ourselves and love what we do
  • a safe group of friends who understand them

My goal with this class is to provide young people with with a safe space to be themselves.

 What others are saying:

I enjoyed this class a lot! Every day, we took an amazing journey through techniques, supplies, and different crafts. Each day produced an amazing new page, and a lot of fun. The teacher was very easygoing, kind and supportive. I greatly enjoyed learning from her. Also, there was zero judgement! The teacher would teach, but we all could choose to interpret her instructions to our own strengths and loves. There was no "Supposed to" and no two pages looked the same! All in all, this was a very enjoyable class, and I highly recommend it! (From the student, age 11)

The teacher is very respectful and kind. Everyone was friendly and supportive.
My 13 year old looked forward to this class every week! Most times, the class
will write about how they feel and cover it up with paint, collages, text,
and other items. Thanks for a great class.
