Art Journaling is a safe and creative way to express deep feelings.

Do you facilitate a support group?

Art Journaling is creative way for vulnerable people to express themselves. It is a safe and accessible process that can benefit a wide variety of groups.

Some groups that I've shared Art Journaling with include: a group for grieving family members, people with mental health challenges, a support group for people struggling with Long Covid, women suffering with chronic illness, and parents of children who are struggling. Programs are tailored to the needs of the group, whether in person or online, or what supplies are used.

This is a no mistakes, anyone-can-do-it-workshop

Each time, participants report feelings of relief and ease. The act of writing down their feelings and then painting over them is very freeing, with some reporting this was the first time they had written down their true feelings.

What does a session look like?

We start off with a writing prompt and suggestions on a style of writing that makes it impossible for anyone to ever read their writing. Next, we cover up what we wrote with either paint of rip up some paper (very satisfying) and glue it over the writing. Next we add some colour around the background, add a focal image and finish it up with some text.

Details:

Workshop is available both online over Zoom, and in person
Workshop can be from 60 minutes or 2 hours; can be one time or multiple sessions

Supplies

Most of the supplies needed for this workshop can be found at home.
Basic supplies include*:

  • something to journal on (printer paper is fine),
  • something to journal with (pens, sharpies, pencil crayons),
  • something to collage (magazines, junk mail, old books)
  • something to collage with (glue, glue stick, tape)

*Some participants want to purchase art supplies in preparation for the class. The act of buying the supplies adding to the process of 'showing up'. I have a more complete supply list available for everyone.

What others are saying

As a participant in a number of Anna's art workshops I can say Do Not Miss this opportunity to have a date with your creative self in a fun and supportive environment.  Art journalling with Anna saved my sanity during the challenges over the last several months!

This was my first-time art journaling. I used to keep a journal when I was in high school (years ago), then my sister found it and read it, Art journaling is interesting, the message you write is hidden in the artwork... It was fun to play with colors and images, no artistic experience was required and I learned new things about art mediums, textures, color combinations. Anna, thank you for sharing your tips and techniques.

Art Journaling with Anna has changed my life! I love the process involved in creating each page. Transforming thoughts into Art and learning not to judge my work has brought me great joy! I've never been one to write in a journal...but THIS!! This is it for me! I am such a visual person so I get so excited at the idea of "making something".
