How to use this most versatile art supply

Of all the art supplies, watercolour pencil crayons are the ones I get asked about most. Usually, it goes something like: “I have these, but… what do I do with them?”

This workshop is your chance to experiment, play, and discover just how invaluable these little treasures can be. They’re a staple in my art kit, and I’m excited to show you why. Their effect may be subtle, but it can make a big impact on your pages.

Some things I love to use Watercolour Pencil Crayons for

  • outlining
  • shadows
  • backgrounds
  • shading
  • drawings
  • adding details and depth

I'm not even describing all the ways I use them, they are just what I grab all the time without thinking about it.

What we’ll be doing

In this workshop, we’ll explore the difference between putting water down first and applying colour first. You’ll learn how to achieve the most vibrant results, avoid visible pencil lines, and make the most of the unique properties of watercolour pencils. You’ll also discover why this simple tool is an essential part of any art kit.

What you will leave with

By the end of class, you’ll have created a swatch card, a couple of bookmarks, and a watercolour card combining collage and watercolour pencil crayons.
